This experience made me panic because I was not ready with my camera and I also felt as if I were intruding on something, even though they chose to converse in public. When I was taking the photo I remember thinking, this is the epitome of Calgary.
Why? Because there is a huge boxy trash can sitting right next to a bench, cars are constantly moving or parked on the side of the road, the grass is extremely patchy, and half the trees are dead-- and yet everyone is still out trying to enjoy the sunset and what is left of the nature that we can enjoy. Through my lens, I felt as though there was a connection between these two humans-- that they were deep in discussion and hand gestures were being used to illustrate his point. I felt apprehensive because it reminded me of a time when my mother tried to help me do my math homework-- except I very obviously was not born to be a mathematician which consequently annoyed her immensely (hence, the hand gestures). As such, I think I have formed a negative connotation of this image; especially with the trash can in the frame of the picture.
